Information For IT Departments
Requirements to run ContacTree
ContacTree is not compatible with Outlook Express.
[“Outlook was developed by the Office program group as a Personal Information Manager (PIM) and e-mail program and positioned as the Exchange client to replace Schedule+ and the original Exchange client. Outlook Express was developed by the Internet Explorer group to provide simple mail and news handling for Windows users. The feature sets in each program are targeted to the expected the user base: Outlook is a business e-mail client while Outlook Express is for home users. As a result, Outlook does some things better than OE, like calendaring, contacts, mail merge, and tasks; while OE has inline image display and newsgroups and is less complicated to use.
See http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/olexpr.htm and http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=257824 for more information on the differences between Outlook and Outlook Express.” ]
The current minimum requirements are that you are running Outlook 2000 or 2002 (XP). Specifically we check that you have a version later than:
- Outlook 2000 version 9.0.0.4527 (Office 2000 Service Pack 2)
- Outlook 2002 version 10.0.3513 (Office XP Service Pack 1)
As part of the installation we will also ensure that you have a suitable version of the Microsoft XML core libraries and the OrgViewer (provided under licence from HumanConcepts LLC). If you are already running OrgPlus from HumanConcepts, then it is likely that you will have a suitable version already installed.
We also include a copy of ClickYes – a free program that overcomes some of the issues with the Outlook Security model, namely the prompting that a program is accessing your Outlook files. It is not mandatory to use this program – we just find it makes life less tiresome!
Outlook 2003/BCM
Outlook 2003 is supported. However, BCM and ContacTree both run in their own folders, it is not therefore possible to “share” contacts between the two systems. BCM uses a separate database and does not have the data structures to allow the generation of Organisation Charts. If you wish to run both modules together, please consult with us for different schemas you may employ.
In reality, they target different parts of the Sales process: ContacTree is aimed at the Market Prospecting and Pre-Sales processes, while BCM brings greater value to Accounts that you already have a relationship with. It is realistic, therefore, to take advantage of the power and ease-of-use of ContacTree to capture and display contacts. You may then simply copy your records across, at the point when you convert that Opportunity, in order to use the CRM features of BCM; or indeed into MS CRM.
